Objectives of Genetic Studies for 2010

A major long term objective is to establish pure single mutant lines.
The other major objective is to continue studies of the tangerine and tangerine modifier gene.

Objectives of Genetic Studies for 2010

Pair One

            Orange Cock (dB//dB  ?al  +//pi  ?ry   Ta//+  M//+)     X     Orange ++ Hen (dB/    ?pi  +//ry  Ta//Ta  +//+)

            Objective:  To produce Orange with white neck ring and white flights.  To confirm that the Tangerine Modifier gene produces the pearling and when absent results in solid color with white neck ring and flights.  One half of homozygous Tangerine offspring should be Pearled and one half should be solid in color.

Pair Two

            Pearl Pied Cock (D+//?dB  ?al  ?iv  pi//pi  ?ry  Ta//Ta  M//+)     X     White Ivory Tufted Hen (dw/    iv//iv  +//ry  Tf//+)

            Objective:  To produce tufted offspring for purposes of determining the variable expression of the tufted gene.  To test the cock for Ivory

Pair Three

            Tangerine ++ Cock (D+//dB  ?pi  +//ry  Ta//Ta  +//+)     X     True Tangerine Hen (D+/    ?iv  ?pi  Ta//+  M//+)

            Objective:  To confirm that the Tangerine Modifier gene produces the pearling and when absent results in solid color with white neck ring and flights.  One half of homozygous Tangerine offspring should be Pearled and one half should be Solid in color.

Pair Four

            Pearl Pied Cock (D+//dB  pi//pi  +//ry  Ta//Ta  +//+)     X     Gray Ring Tangerine Hen (D+/    +//pi  +//ry  Ta//+   M//+)

            Objective:  To confirm that the Tangerine Modifier gene produces the pearling and when absent results in solid color with white neck ring and flights.  One half of homozygous Tangerine offspring should be Pearled and one half should be Solid in color.

Pair Five

            Rosy Cock (D+//dB  ry//ry)     X     Rosy  Hen (D+/  ry//ry)

            Objective:     To produce pure single mutant rosy.

Pair Six

            Frosty Tangerine Cock (D+//D+  ?al  ?iv  ?pi  ?ry   Fr//+  Ta//+  )     X     Dark Hen (D+/)

            Objective:  The hen is a pure dark carrying no hidden mutant genes.  Object is to produce Frosty Tangerine, Frosty, Tangerine and Dark offspring.

Pair Seven

            Tangerine Pearled Cock (D+//?dB  ?al  ?iv  ?pi  ?ry  Ta//Ta  M//+)     X     Tangerine Pearled Hen (D+/    ?al  ?iv  ?pi  +//ry  Ta//Ta   M//+)

            Objective:  To confirm that the Tangerine Modifier gene produces the pearling and when absent results in solid color with white neck ring and flights.  25% of offspring should be Solid in color, 50% should be Pearled, and 25% should be Whiteback

Pair Eight

            Dark Pied Silky Cock (D+//dB  ?al  pi//pi  +//ry  L//+)     X     Orange Hen (dB/    ?al  ?iv  ?pi  +//ry Ta//+  M//+)

            Objective:  To test the hen for pied and rosy

Pair Nine

            Blond Tufted Cock (dB//dw  +//iv  ?ry  Tf//+ )     X     Orange Pearled Hen (dB/    ?pi  ?ry  Ta//Ta  M//+)

            Objective:  To produce tufted offspring for purposes of determining the variable expression of the tufted gene

Pair Ten

            Tangerine Pearled  Cock (D+//dB  +//pi  +//ry  Ta//Ta  M//+N-1913)     X     Tangerine Pearled Hen (D+/    +//ry  Ta//Ta   M//+)

            Objective:  To confirm that the Tangerine Modifier gene produces the pearling and when absent results in solid color with white neck ring and flights.  25% of offspring should be Solid in color, 50% should be Pearled, and 25% should be Whiteback

Pair Eleven

            Pearl Pied Cock (D+//?dB  pi//pi  +//ry  Ta//Ta  +//+)     X     Tangerine ++ Hen (D+/    +//pi  +//ry  Ta//Ta  +//+)

            Objective:  To confirm that the absence of the Tangerine Modifier gene results in Solid color with white neck ring and flights.  I suspect that the Pearl Pied is ++ at the Modifier Locus because he carries more color than the typical Pearl Pied.  Should any Pearled offspring be produced then the Pearl Pied is heterozygous at the Modifier locus.
